[기억하는 사물들-하노이 편]사업을 진행하기 전에 하노이 시민을 대상으로 사전 조사를 실시했던 한국 창작그룹 노니가 가장 먼저 던지는 질문은 바로 하노이에 살면서 기억에 오래 남은 장소는 어디냐는 것이다. 미술, 연극, 전통연희, 음악 등 다양한 분야에서 활동하는 젊은 아티스트로 구성된 창작그룹 노니는 site specific이라는 생소한 공연 형태를 베트남 관객에게 선보였다.

롱비엔 역 대합실 앞에 차려진 빨간 의자들은 관객의 좌석이 되며 여기서 공연장 입장 신호를 기다리고 있다. 창작그룹 노니 관계자들이 일찍부터 현장에 나와서 생소한 공연형태에 서투른 관객에게 안내하고 있다. 한국 아티스트에게 받은 헤드폰에 나온 안내 멘트에 따라 이동하게 되며 여행하 듯 공연을 관람했다. 이동코스는 롱비엔 역에서 출발해 짠 낫 주앗 거리, 동수안 시장을 걸쳐 롱비엔 역으로 다시 돌아가는 것이다. 관객들이 이동하면서 정해진 곳에 붙어있는 QR코드를 찍고 그곳에서 찍은 동영상을 보게 되었다. 마치 숨바꼭질을 하는 것처럼 롱비엔 역 안에 숨겨진 이야기가 속속 밝혀져서 관객들의 놀라운 감탄을 자아낸다. 동영상에 나온 젊은 베트남 아티스트의 안무와 움직임에 의해 화물박스를 운반하느라 분주한 기차역의 분위기나 손님으로 복잡한 대합실에 대한 기억을 떠오르게 했다. 란아잉 씨(40살, 기자)가 공연을 재미있게 보았다며 공연의 분위기에 취해 마치 무용수가 된 느낌이 들었다고 소감 발표를 했다. 그리고 공연에 참여한 관객들이 영상과 보며 제각각의 이해와 해석이 동반한다.

Site-specific이라는 장소특정화 예술형태로 이루어진 이 공연은 이미지와 사운드, 인간의 움직임, 실제 장소 등을 서로 연결시켜 관객과 소통한 것 같다.

창작그룹 노니 김경희 대표는 롱비엔 역을 공연장소로 선택한 이유가 이곳은 보편적인 기억과 개인적인 기억을 결합한 곳으로 아련한 기억을 떠오르게 하는 등 극적인 요소를 충분히 지닌 장소라고 밝혔다.

헤드폰과 스마트폰, 그리고 인간의 모든 감각을 동원해 이 공연을 제대로 감상할 수 있었으며 베트남 관객에게 한국 현대예술에 대한 새로운 시각을 선사했다.

24 Hours Moving, March 15th 2016, 11:30 A.M.

Before starting its Hanoi version of [Things that Remember], South Korean Creative Group NONI led a survey among Hanoi citizens, asking them to name a place in the city that has a lasting memory for them. Comprised of young artists from various fields such as art, play, traditional performance, music and others, Creative Group NONI presents a rather unfamiliar form of performance, namely a site-specific based performance, to the Vietnamese audience.

Red chairs are placed in front of the waiting room at Long Bien Station, serving as seats for the audience waiting for admission. Creative Group NONI staff members are already present at the venue so as to guide the audience who may find this type of performance rather strange. Following instructions coming from a headset handed out by the Korean artists, the performance is a trav- ellike experience. The route starts from Long Bien Station, passing through Tran That Duat Road and Dong Xuan Market, and then returns back to the station. While moving from one place to another, the audience is asked to scan the QR codes placed on certain spots to watch videos that were recorded from that spot. As if playing hide-and-seek, hidden stories embedded in Long Bien Station are being discovered one after the other, wowing the audience. The choreography and movements of young Vietnamese artists shown in these videos recall an atmosphere of a busy train station where cargo boxes are being carried away and a waiting room is filled with bustling commuters.

Lan A Ing, a 40-year-old reporter, remarks that she enjoyed the performance and that she felt as if she was a dancer, being totally captivated by the mood. As the participating audience watches the videos, different understandings and interpretations start to emerge. 

By interlinking images and sounds with movements made by human beings as well as the existing place, this site-specific art performance succeeds in closely interacting with the audience. 

Kyung-hee Kim, president of Creative Group NONI, said that Long Bien Station was chosen because the place holds both universal and personal memories, and allows the audience to dimly recall moments of from the past as dramatic elements are being inherent. 

With a headset, a smartphone and the human body’s senses, the performance has been highly appraised as it offers a new perspective on Korea’s contemporary art scene to the Vietnamese audience.
